Morris Hirshfield (1872–1946) was a Polish artist who emigrated to the U.S. at a young age and became a successful shoe manufacturer. He did not start painting until he was sixty-five. His first solo exhibition opened only five years later at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. His works are now in that museum’s collection as well as the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
