Oswald Tschirtner (1920–2007) was an Austrian artist. After graduating from high school, he enrolled to study chemistry; in 1937, he was drafted for service in the Second World War. He was taken prisoner of war and, after his release, committed to a series of psychiatric institutions. In 1981, he moved to the Haus der Künstler in Gugging, where he spent his final decades.
