Préfète Duffaut (1923–2012) was a Haitian painter and dockworker. His career as an artist began when, as he recalled it, he had a dream in which the Virgin Mary appeared to him on a mountaintop and commanded him to paint his city. He joined the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince in the 1940s. Duffaut is considered one of the foremost exponents of the Haitian Renaissance, which helped generate international attention for postcolonial discourses.
